There and back again

Under the maple tree I sit

Where I have sat these past years

And think of the people and place I am leaving

And sob uncontrollably for long while

Why must it hurt so much?

The pain of parting is agony indeed

My chest shakes as tears flow easily

Oh my friends!

You buried yourself deep in my heart

And now you take a piece of it as I leave

Buried roots here have I

Watched friendships and crushes live and die

Belonged to something greater than myself

Laughed, wandered, hoped and cried

Poignant this loss

Sweet this pain

Heavy this sorrow

Enduring these memories

My heart is full, overflowing

Rich and deep have been these years

Oh what memories!

They are all I carry with me now

And they are enough
