The Little South African

Mischievous is she

With twinkling eyes and rising giggle

Bouncing on her toes and shaking in glee

Laughing at life in general

And at me the most

But this time I don’t mind

For it is no malicious laugh

But one of hilarity and childish joy

A laugh that makes me happy

Although sad I cannot join in

Envious of her freedom

For I resemble my father’s misery

And cannot find the way out
